Case Study: City of Aurora, IL: Mayor's State of the City Address

THE PROBLEM:

Each year, the City of Aurora, Illinois uses its State of the City address to update residents on the community's progress and priorities, a tradition led by then Mayor Richard Irvin in 2021. That year's address carried extra weight. With the COVID-19 pandemic limiting large public gatherings, the city needed a way to deliver the mayor's annual update directly to residents without an in-person audience, while still capturing the scope of the city's momentum, from redevelopment progress to public safety milestones to service improvements.

THE SOLUTION:

Digital Alliance Media filmed and edited the City of Aurora's 2021 State of the City direct address, produced as a to camera piece with Mayor Irvin delivering his remarks via teleprompter. The final video wove in supporting photos and video highlighting the city's notable achievements throughout the year, including the launch of a citywide business registration program, expanded digital permit and rental license renewal services, continued redevelopment progress across the River Edge Redevelopment Zone, Pacific Square, and the East Bank, and the city's top state safety and building code ratings. The format let the mayor speak directly to residents while giving viewers a visual sense of the city's progress.

THE RESULT:

The finished video gave the City of Aurora a polished, accessible way to share the mayor's annual address with residents through virtual government channels during a year when in person gatherings weren't possible, keeping the community informed and connected despite the circumstances.
